Our Mission
We strive to improve the well-being of pets and their owners in San José del Cabo and the surrounding areas by offering free, compassionate spay and neuter services. Our goal is to encourage responsible pet ownership, decrease the number of animals without homes, and cultivate a community where every animal is cherished and supported. Through our no-cost clinics, educational initiatives, and community outreach programs, we aim to foster a healthier environment for all pets and their families.

Volunteering at the free monthly spay and neuter clinics of Casa Sheila, in San José del Cabo is incredibly rewarding. The people we work with are amazing—compassionate, committed, and a joy to be around. Each month, we see nearly 300 animals—both beloved pets and animals brought in from the streets—receive care that helps prevent overpopulation. Giving up a little bit of personal time to support this effort that makes a such an impact in our community is so amazing.

Volunteering in postoperative care at a spay and neuter clinics involves monitoring animals as they recover from surgery, ensuring they’re comfortable and stable. You provide gentle care to ease animals’ stress. It’s a hands-on role that requires patience and a keen eye for signs of complications. The work is fulfilling, knowing you’re helping pets heal and return to their loving homes. Working will all the volunteers and loving staff sends you home feeling fulfilled.

I joined CS when I returned to Los Cabos after living 7 years aboard. I saw the great job that CS does to reduce the overpopulation of abandoned and mistreated puppies and kittens by irresponsible people. In addition to providing education in schools to the future generations of the community, showing how to care for, feed, walk, and love pets at home, by spaying and neutering to be safe and healthy. I am sure that CS is making the great difference in the community, raising awareness about a new four-legged family member to live with them. For this a many more reasons I so proud to be part of this fabulous group of volunteers.

I have been volunteering with Casa Sheila for 3 1/2 years. I have been involved with almost every sterilization clinic since I started. I work in recovery and I absolutely love giving the animals the care and attention they need when they wake up from their surgeries. I’ve also had 16 foster dogs through Cassa Sheila. I absolutely love this organization and how much we all care for one another. I always look forward to seeing the other volunteers and spending time with the animals. As long as I live in San Jose I will be part of this amazing team of awesome people!

I joined CS almost 1 year ago as a new, young retiree wanting to make a difference in lives of animals in the Baja. I had never volunteered with a humane society and had no expectations. All I knew is that I missed my doggie that had recently passed and had an intense desire to share love with animals.CS drew me in with their mission of education and sterilization as my chiropractor and nutritionist selves always seek to fix the root cause of a problem instead of putting a band-aid over the symptoms.CS welcomed me with open arms and demonstrated a family-type love and cooperation that is unmatched. Every clinic fills my heart with love and awe as the families and pets gather with a united mission of creating a healthy, happy, and thriving environment for everyone.The collective community is whole and thriving when animals and humans share love. My partner and I came to San Jose from Canada three years ago to spend our winters. We fell in love with the community and wanted to find a way to meet people and try to give back. One of the first things we did was sign up for a Casa Shelia sterilization clinic and offer to foster. We met so many incredible people and we were blown away by how well organized the clinic was. Casa Shelia is truly making a difference in the region. We have made some wonderful friends through CS and we had some beautiful experiences fostering the sweetest pups….especially our foster fail

I started volunteering with Casa Sheila about 5 years ago during Covid lockdown when we were not even allowed to get together in groups but that didn’t stop us . We were meeting at houses and packaging up bags of dog food to give to the local families. Pretty soon , Sandy was talking about doing a spay/neuter clinic and I helped at my first one . Since then, it’s been one a month , and now over 10,000 pets have been sterilized . I love seeing the families lovingly take their pets home and the pride on their faces as they are doing the best thing for their family. I’m so proud to be a part of this work and truly can say that Casa Sheila is my family!
